Wilpattu National Park is the largest protected wildlife sanctuary in Sri Lanka, situated along the northwestern coast across the Puttalam and Anuradhapura districts. Spanning over 131,693 hectares, Wilpattu is distinguished by its dense dry-zone jungle and unique geological ecosystem of natural, sand-rimmed rainwater lakes known as 'villus'. These natural water basins attract a diverse abundance of wildlife, making Wilpattu a premier destination for tracking Sri Lankan leopards, sloth bears, wild Asian elephants, spotted deer, and water buffaloes. Rich in birdlife and ancient historical ruins linked to early Sinhalese kingdoms, Wilpattu provides an authentic, crowd-free wilderness safari adventure.
