After breakfast visit and climb the 5th Century Rock Fortress in Sigiriya (UNESCO World Heritage Site) considered by some as the 8th wonder of the world for its architectural marvels and the advanced water management system. The ‘Lion Rock’ is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200 meters from the scrub jungle. The rock was the innermost stronghold of the 70 hectare fortified town. A moat, rampart, and extensive gardens including the renowned water gardens ring the base of the rock Visit the world-renowned frescoes of the ‘Heavenly Maidens’ of Sigiriya, which are in a sheltered pocket of the rock approached by a spiral stairway. These frescoes are painted in earth pigments on plaster.
Thereafter proceed to Polonnaruwa, (UNESCO World Heritage Site) which was the 2nd capital city of Sri Lanka, built in the 11th and 12th centuries AD, and which is a world heritage site. Here you can see the ruins of the Royal Palace, the Gal Viharaya where 4 splendid statues of the Buddha in ‘Upright’, ‘Sedentary’ and ‘Recumbent’ postures carved out of rock, the Audience Hall, the Lotus Bath, king Parakramabahu’s statue, and the Parakrama Samudraya Lake built by King Parakramabahu the great. After breakfast transfer to Kandy (UNESCO World Heritage Site) the last Kingdom of Sri Lanka before being colonized by the British. Enroute visit the Matale Heritage Centre, which draws on the rich craft traditions of the area, producing quality batik, embroidery, carpentry and brass work. It occupies a sprawling compound of bungalows, workshops and gardens.

Kandy the popular charming hill capital of Sri Lanka is surrounded by hills, valleys, rivers, lakes and waterfalls. It is the cultural center of the island and a UNESCO heritage city. The sacred tooth relic of Lord Buddha is enshrined at the Dalada Maligawa, the temple of the tooth. While in Kandy, a visit to the Royal Botanical Gardens is a must where you can see around 4000 species of plants. The arts and crafts center in Kandy, the main Buddhist monasteries Malwatta and Asgiriya Monasteries are places that must be visited. Kandy is a great place for souvenir shopping and to learn about its rich culture and history. In the evening visit Kandy Temple of the tooth relic. Kandy is a large city in central Sri Lanka. It's set on a plateau surrounded by mountains, which are home to tea plantations and biodiverse rainforest. The city's heart is scenic Kandy Lake (Bogambara Lake), which is popular for strolling. Kandy is famed for sacred Buddhist sites, including the Temple of the Tooth (Sri Dalada Maligawa) shrine, celebrated with the grand Esala Perahera annual procession. one of the most sacred places of worship in the Buddhist world. It was declared a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1988. Historically the local Buddhist rulers resisted Portuguese, Dutch, and British colonial expansion and occupation. Kandy This sacred Buddhist site, popularly known as the city of Senkadagalapura, was the last capital of the Sinhala kings whose patronage enabled the Sinahala culture to flourish for more than 2,500 years until the occupation of Sri Lanka by the British in 1815. It is also the site of the Temple of the Tooth Relic (the sacred tooth of the Buddha), which is a famous pilgrimage Site . Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Today we drive about 80km (approx 3hrs) along winding roads lined by green slopes of tea plantations. There is plenty of interests along the way, including a stop at some waterfalls. You'll reach Nuwara Eliya, heart of the tea growing industry and full of colonial charm. Built entirely during the 19th century, it's quirky architecture reflects what you'd normally expect to find in an English country town, which will make you feel like you've stepped back in time. On the way we will visit Devon and St Clare's waterfalls. This afternoon we make a visit to a tea factory to see the process of making one of our favorite’s drinks in action. DAY 07
Thereafter visit Fitz Herbert House, which is now known as Claughton House, in Dickwella (approximately 3hour). This too is a great work of Bawa’s. Drive this morning to the colonial city of Galle (approximately 2 hours). En route, drop by another of Bawa’s works – the Ruhunu University Campus and the Matara Office building.
In the afternoon, enjoy some sightseeing in Galle Fort. Its rich heritage is derived from the colonial influences of the Portuguese, Dutch and the British respectively, spanning four centuries. The town’s centerpiece is the Dutch Fort, around which the city is built. 12.What clothes do I need to take?

a. Light cotton or linen clothing. It can be chilly in NuwaraEliya (the hill country) at night, so a sweater is recommended. Shoulders and knees must be covered to enter temples. Socks may also be a good idea for walking round places such as Polonnaruwa – the ground can be extremely hot for bare feet. Cotton t-shirts and shorts. Trousers to visit temples. Sandals. Trainers for walks. Socks. A fleece. Umbrella. Waterproof jacket.

13.Do I require a Visa?

a. You will need to obtain an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) prior to your visit to Sri Lanka. You can apply directly for an online ETA by visiting the following website:
Do not apply too early as it is only valid for 90 days from the date you apply. The cost of the ETA is $20pp (about £13) if you are a UK citizen. Payment is made by either credit card or e-commerce enabled debit cards. Only Visa, Master and American Express Cards are accepted. When applying, you will need your passport details, flight details and the name and address of your first hotel on your tour Children under the age of 12 are free. Please do take the ETA with you when you travel. As at January 2012, if you find that you can’t apply for one before you travel, you can obtain a Visa on entering Sri Lanka, for $25pp (about £16)
your passport must be valid 6 months beyond your intended date of departure from Sri Lanka. A 60-day extension can be requested (variable fee) at the Dept. of Immigration and Emigration in Colombo. It is your responsibility to have the correct personal documents and obtain your Visa, if necessary. As with all foreign travel, it is wise to take a copy of the details page of your passport which will help the British Consulate in providing a temporary one in case of loss.

15. What opportunities are there for photography?

a. There are so many opportunities for photography whether it is of scenes of everyday life by the roadside, spectacular vistas or of the amazing wildlife. Do please take a memory card of sufficient size as you will find you will take so many photographs. It would also be a good idea to bring some small binoculars to view the wildlife in the National Parks as with all wild animals, you will only be able to view them from a distance

16 . Do I need Insurance?

It is your responsibility to ensure that you have adequate travel insurance for the activities that you are doing on your Tour such as white rafting, elephant rides, game drive etc. All travelers booking with us need to notify us of their insurance arrangements prior to travelling.

18.Where can I change money?

a. Yes, you can only purchase Sri Lankan Rupees in Sri Lanka as it isn’t an International Currency. On arrival at Colombo Airport, it is best to change some money at the Banks just before the Arrival Hall where there are 24hr facilities. Banks in towns are generally open 9am to 1pm or 3pm Mon-Fri. All banks are shut at weekends and public holidays. Changing Traveler’s Cheques can be a time-consuming process in a Bank, however, most Hotels will change these but the rate may not be such a good one. ATMs accepting Visa and MasterCard are widely available in cities and towns. If you wish to use Visa or MasterCard’s in ATMs, (as with all overseas travel) it is best to notify your Bank in the UK that you will be travelling to Sri Lanka, prior to your departure. When changing currency in Sri Lanka it is advisable that you keep a copy of the money exchange certificate with you. Always demand this certificate when you change money as you may be asked for this when you leave. You are not allowed to take Sri Lankan Rupees out of the country
