Negombo is a city on the west coast of Sri Lanka, north of the capital, Colombo. Near the waterfront, the remains of the 17th-century Dutch Fort now house a prison. Day 04 Dolphin & whale watching in Kalpitiya.

Kalpitiya Fort was built by the Dutch between 1667 and 1676. Kalpitiya was important as it commands the
entrance to the adjacent bay, Puttalam Lagoon. Kalpitiya Fort, also known as Kalpitiya Balakotuwa, was constructed by the Dutch between 1667 and 1676. Its strategic significance lies in its command over the entrance to the nearby bay, Puttalam Lagoon. The surrounding Puttalam area was a significant region for cinnamon cultivation in Sri Lanka.The Dutch utilized the fort as a key business point, and to facilitate the transportation of cinnamon from the area, they even engineered a canal from Puttalam, through Negombo, to Colombo."

The Dutch Reformed Church also known as St Peter's Kerk is located between the Dutch fort and the village of Kalpitiya. This historic city is old almost beyond reckoning: it’s possibly the site of historic Gokana in the Mahavamsa Trincomalee is a port city on the northeast coast of Sri Lanka. Set on a peninsula, Fort Frederick was built by the Portuguese in the 17th century. Within its grounds, the grand Koneswaram Temple stands on Swami Rock cliff, a popular vantage point for blue-whale watching. The holy complex contains ornate shrines and a massive statue of Shiva. a. You will need to obtain an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) prior to your visit to Sri Lanka. You can apply directly for an online ETA by visiting the following website:
Do not apply too early as it is only valid for 90 days from the date you apply. The cost of the ETA is $20pp (about £13) if you are a UK citizen. Payment is made by either credit card or e-commerce enabled debit cards. Only Visa, Master and American Express Cards are accepted. When applying, you will need your passport details, flight details and the name and address of your first hotel on your tour Children under the age of 12 are free. Please do take the ETA with you when you travel. As at January 2012, if you find that you can’t apply for one before you travel, you can obtain a Visa on entering Sri Lanka, for $25pp (about £16)

It would also be a good idea to bring some small binoculars to view the wildlife in the National Parks as with all wild animals, you will only be able to view them from a distance

16 . Do I need Insurance?

18.Where can I change money?

a. Yes, you can only purchase Sri Lankan Rupees in Sri Lanka as it isn’t an International Currency. On arrival at Colombo Airport, it is best to change some money at the Banks just before the Arrival Hall where there are 24hr facilities. Banks in towns are generally open 9am to 1pm or 3pm Mon-Fri. All banks are shut at weekends and public holidays. Changing Traveler’s Cheques can be a time-consuming process in a Bank, however, most Hotels will change these but the rate may not be such a good one. ATMs accepting Visa and MasterCard are widely available in cities and towns. If you wish to use Visa or MasterCard’s in ATMs, (as with all overseas travel) it is best to notify your Bank in the UK that you will be travelling to Sri Lanka, prior to your departure. When changing currency in Sri Lanka it is advisable that you keep a copy of the money exchange certificate with you. Always demand this certificate when you change money as you may be asked for this when you leave. You are not allowed to take Sri Lankan Rupees out of the country
